Below are some of the most beautiful molas. All hand made by the Kuna Indians of Panama using a reverse applique technique. The Kuna women make them to wear as the front and the back panels of their blouses. Molas are inspired by many sources: traditional designs that have been copied from their grandmother's old molas; birds, fish and other animals that they often see in their surroundings;, Kuna legends and culture and images from storybooks or cards. The Kunas are a happy people and this merriment is transferred to their beautiful art.
